Project Background
As a landmark shopping mall in Hong Kong's New Territories, its densely populated restaurant tenants generate a significant amount of grease (FOG) wastewater, placing significant pressure on the sewage system. During a routine inspection by the Environmental Protection Department (EPD), the mall's wastewater discharge was found to contain grease at concentrations 2.4 times higher than its discharge license standard. This exposed the mall to multiple challenges, including significant regulatory risks (fines and prosecutions), operational pain points (blocked pipes, foul odors, and high costs for vacuum trucks), and damage to its brand image.
